Status and translation lines

Post  Nimue on Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:34 am

I'll *TRY* to keep this up to date.

Got about 6 lines left to reach that 1/37th of the way mark (which is when I'll be shooting emails out to my translator minions). They're being dumb though...

Here, if you want to help, take a look at these.

こうも血に狂うとは実務に使える代物ではありませんね
Using (mad) bodies and blood is not a practical thing.

But... That doesn't make sense.... That seems to be what it says though.

Or...

下手な話を聞かせちまうと始末せざるを得なくなるだろうが

I'm shakier on my translation of that one, because it sounds strange. Your unskilled/bad/untalented story/words/speech? Also why せちまう? I know て+しまう but, I can't seem to find anything for the あーseries+せちまう. It's a bit wtf, if you ask me.

……さりげなく圧力をかけられたような気がする。
...I casually felt pressured.

I mean... that makes no sense. How can you casually feel pressured?

Gonna ask my sister on Monday (she has about five years of Japanese under her belt, I only have three... And she lived there for a year), but until then if you wanted to help out, that'd be cool <3.

斎藤一「こうも血に狂うとは、実務に使える代物ではありませんね」
^ This line does sound cryptic, but it's fairly easy to translate. There are far worse later on, I tell you. I don't know, if you've been given an answer to this already, but... Here's my version:

Saitou Hajime: "Them going mad like this because of blood thirst means that thing is not useful in practice."

His point is: The side effects of that thing (blood thirst) make it not useful. "That thing" is the medicine Chizuru's father invented, btw. Saitou's line is meant to awaken your interest in "that thing".

If you divide that sentence into parts, it all makes sense:
こう - in this way
も - inclusive topic particle
血に狂う - literaly: "go mad because of blood"; you should know that those guys go bonkers, if they see/smell blood and they want to drink it
とは - indicates word or phrase being defined
実務に使える代物 - a thing that can be useful in practice
ではありません - a formal "dewanai"
ね - looking for agreement particle

So yeah, Saitou's Japanese is very formal and polite.

I could try to help you with other lines, if you tell me where they are in the game? (Which file?)

About ----> …さりげなく圧力をかけられたような気がする。

I think the さりげなく here means the pressure is not obvious; it's only implied, no one is being direct with it.
I would translate that line as "I feel a bit pressured." Though I'm just guessing, I don't know where this line is.

(Sorry for the spam.)

I`m not exactly sure what the context is, so this may not be 100% correct for this line

さりげなく圧力をかけられたような気がする

"I get the feeling that we/I/they were being pressured"

You were right in saying さりげなく = casually, but I think that is means casually, in the sense that it`s not a great concern to the thing/people pressuring the subject.

Hmm... Those both make it make a lot more sense. I'm going to incorporate both meanings (though I'll tweak the sentences to make it fit better in the scenes) into the game as of my next release.

Thanks guys!

And yeah, I've already stumbled across some nastier sentences x.x. They're not too bad though since I've gotten a lot more practice in since the prologue!

Anyway, thanks for your help! I'll post more if I get stumped again.

Oh and Mirlaine, thanks for the instructions on graphic editing! I'll try it this weekend once I get my boatloads of homework done lol.

Oh, and I think I've figured out what 下手な話を聞かせちまうと始末せざるを得なくなるだろうが means, I'll try to post all about it later Smile
